School Dog
Nelly is our Deputy Headteacher's dog. She is a pedigree Whippet with a love of children...and squirrels! The children love it when Nelly comes to school; she is talked to, stroked and taken for walks. Nelly provides emotional warmth for our children and a place to connect. Stroking a dog for even 5 minutes can lower anxiety levels and being in the company of a dog longer term, can help with confidence, responsibility and the development of empathy and nurturing skills.
